Major trade routes should be constructed and maintained to a higher standard, the Manitoba Trucking Association insists.

A recent announcement to spend $200 million over the next five years to start rebuilding the southwest quadrant of the perimeter, comes on the heels of recently announced plans from Premier Greg Selinger and Minister Steve Ashton to upgrade Highway 75, and the official opening of CentrePort Canada Way.

"As each step of this upgrade is completed, the highway will become safer, more productive and more efficient as a trade route link between the US and Winnipeg, Western Manitoba and Western Canada" said MTA executive director Bob Dolyniuk.

The MTA supports strategic commitment and investment in the core infrastructure of the province and feels it is a wise decision that will serve the province and its citizens well for the long term.

"Increased transportation corridors lead to increased options for transportation companies and frankly all road users. This is a positive when considering commercial goods traffic efficiencies," said Terry Shaw, general manager at the MTA.
